Route Suggestions for 3 Months in South America: Option #3

To finish off my three-part series on where to go in South America, here is suggested route #3:

Rio to Santiago (Highlights: Rio Carnival, Iguazu Falls, Patagonia, Easter Island)

Once again, this map is just a rough outline and there is a lot more to do along the way, especially in Patagonia. Here are a few ideas: 10 things to do in Patagonia. Easter Island is expensive by South American standards, but do-able. The biggest cost would be the flight. A roundtrip would cost you about US$600 per person.

If you go with this option and end up visiting Buenos Aires, let me know because I used to live there and would be happy to give you a lot more detailed tips on it.

San Telmo Market, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Don’t forget to also check out my posts on Route Suggestion #1 and Route Suggestion #2, and then decide which one works best for you. I’ve also included some useful general tips about backpacking in South America at the end of my first post in this 3-part series.

As always, happy travels!
